Digital first programs differ from our standard programs in numerous ways:
- Although our standard programs can be used in all class formats (face-to-face, hybrid and fully online), the organizing principle is the textbook. The online LP for standard programs follow the format and structure of the text. For digital first programs, we start with the online LP as we create the programs and the in-class text supports the LP.
- Digital first in-class texts are not as robust as with standard programs. They tend to have condensed grammar and vocabulary references instead of full presentations since most of the "learning and general practice" takes place online. The purpose of the activities in the text is to provide expanded, communicative practice in the classroom. There are few if any discrete activities found in the digital first text, but instead contains open-ended, group activities. The text may also contain expansion activities that are meant to expand upon what students do online in a pedagogically sound manner.
